Tonight, Monday night, on the ABC as usual will be the 4corners program. Those of us who attended the meeting at
Roma, Friday 9th Oct, where Professor Bob Carter & Senator Barnaby Joyce spoke were well aware of the 4corners TV crew who were following Barnaby that whole weekend to film about Barnaby & the ETS; or so we thought.

ABC has released the preview to tonight’s program & the title immediately got my alert antenna mobile –
Malcolm and the Malcontents.
Here is a
link to the Four Corners site; on the top left hand side there is a box,
Next on 4C, where you can play the short preview video.
By clicking on the Read More on the
Coming Up box, there is an
introduction to tonight’s program.
“Reporter Sarah Ferguson goes inside the conservative parties to find out what the party members really think about climate change and why they're so reluctant to back their leader.”
How much is going to about the Labor Governments response to the Climate Change belief, the ETS/ CPRS and how much of this program will be devoted to the likes to leadership speculation in the Liberal Party we will have to wait to see.
Read Barnaby’s account of that weekend and you get an impression of him & the crew getting on quite well & some constructive footage shot. But what has happen to this footage back at the editor’s desk? How much will hit the floor with all the footage that was shot of the other political players? What slant will the 4corners team put on tonight’s program?
From the 4corners web site
“To make matters even more complicated for Malcolm Turnbull, the Nationals leader in the Senate, Barnaby Joyce, has told Four Corners that the Liberal Party has betrayed the bush. He says he will argue against the scientific view that man has created climate change and warns that he will conduct a campaign in regional seats against any deal that would deliver a new tax on regional voters:
"I think we are going to win on the ETS. I think it's going to be blocked in the Senate and we'll end up with a double dissolution."
BY the links above to the 4corners site, after Monday the video for the program should be available. I have already directed your attention to the left hand side of the page to the boxes, Next on 4C & Coming Up; well below that is another box that says,
Have your Say. I suggest that once we have seen the program we do have our say, not only on this discussion but also leave 4corners know of the job they have done and also leave Australia know that the ETS must be voted down in the Senate.
Malcontent? I think I’d rather be called a sceptic.
UPDATE
It’s now two sleeps since the Malcolm & the Malcontents on ABC’s 4corners and now I’ll leave you with my impressions.
Those of us who attended, promoted or organized the Roma meeting had gain much ownership of the event, but we must come to terms that the 4corners team were not there to film the meeting as such but rather Senator Barnaby Joyce as one player in the wider context of the ramifications of the ETS policy upon the coalition. I believe that there is a possibility that we can thank Barnaby for dragging the crew out “bush” with him, including to the meeting where Bob Carter spoke; Bob Carter may not have otherwise made an appearance upon the program. Possibly? Prof David Karoly of Melb Uni, was brought in as a counter balance to Bob Carter, but in my opinion he had the appearance of mad emu flapping about claiming undeniable evidence that emus fly. I sat one row behind the camera tripod, off to one side & I know that the camera was not always rolling when Bob Cater gave his presentation. It did film every word Barnaby spoke.
With in mind the story that the 4corners team were trying to present, I believe that they did a fair enough effort. I did resent the narrative saying, Bob Carter as a one man band, but I the unforgivable sin, (take note Sarah) was to call the participants in the campdraft at Roma cowboys. This is after all Australia.
Next day throughout the news & current affairs the Government played the opposition disunity card for all it was worth. Example being this 7.30 Report story,
Coalition split over emissions trading bill. Transcript & video available from this link.
Today, rightly so the focus is on Remembrance Day & the political focus has returned to the asylum seeker issue. It maybe that those in the Turnbull camp unnecessarily aired their weak kneed fears in the press yesterday. Maybe, maybe not; Have a read of
