CHRISTMAS DAY 2009
I salute
Peter Spencer.
Here on Christmas morning at
Das Helwig Haus B&B we have the Christmas decorations in place and the aroma of fresh pine needles and a baking ham pervades the house. The Christmas cake, cookies and things to nibble wait beside fresh bowls of peaches, apricots, plums and cherries - the summer harvest fruits of this cool mountain climate, the Granite Belt of southern…

Children do not listen to their elders. I have a six year old who acts at times like a teenager. I have to get this stuff under control before he gets too big. The cat obviously thought so too. Unfortunately for him.
Mitzie has put up with a lot of treatment from Nir that is not as gentle as it could be. He takes her head in a wrestle hold and mutters "she lubs me, she does. She lubs me' and wrenches her head this way and that. He pats her the wrong way ruffling her fur. (I do have fears fo…

I am not into conspiracy theories. However, when you think about the millenium bug,the salinity exaggeration of a few years ago, the continual threats to the Great Barrier Reef (whatever happened to the Crown-of-thorns-star-fish?) and now the global warming beat-up, you wonder.
The term 'climate change' is much better than 'global warming', as you can win allround. You can even blame the current record cold in the Northern Hemisphere on human activity.
The "climategate" hacked emails scandal h…

The attitudes of Generation Y towards Global Warming tend to vary from the attitudes of Baby Boomers. A study done at the College of Charleston revealed that an overwhelming majority of young people get their information about Global Warming from Television, Newspapers, Magazines and the Internet. Little wonder there seems to be a “Media Ban” from reporting Climategate.
It is fair to say that younger people generally think they have more at stake. They are old enough to be exposed to the concep…

I have been feeding it that cat milk laced with honey and it is much perkier than the other day when it fell off the top bunk. I guess she / he has used one or two if its nine lives. She has started feeding off the mother again.
Bit touch and go there. Nir has orders not to touch the kittens on pain of a fate worst than death. Some of my close friends think I am a bit nutty, as Mitzie has six kittens. One more or less what is the problem? However I am not a proponent of the Spartan methods o…

Today I was giving a lift and helping a dear friend of mine who is in her late 70's. She is due to have a hip replacement in January towards the end of the month. She walks with a walking cane. We do crafts together. We had pulled up in front of Lincraft in Malvern on Wattletree Road. There is a clear way sign that states 'Clearway 4.30 - 6.30 pm'. It was 4.40 pm.
Now as my friend has difficulty walking, I pulled over in front of the Lincraft doors and was in the process of letting her down…

I come from an Australian Military Family. That has served this country in War Time and Peace. That we as Australians reserve the rights our men and women of the Australian Military reserved for us all. To be abled to go and prosper. To achieve our desires to protect our families to feed our families and to be abled to grow in ourselvess Nationhood. But here is the epitomy of the unjust taking place upon 3000 of our fellow Aussies. Their families and their rights to own and farm land on their ow…

ANOTHER OPINION
When I read this feature article on On Line Opinion I was grateful to Max Rheese for writing so succinctly on the problems we country landholders have encountered in recent years. I will illustrate his words with my photographs. Below is a photo of
Das Helwig Haus B&B surrounded by Remnant Forest. We are not allowed to clear any trees within this area.

From The Viscount Monckton of Brenchley in Copenhagen
19 Dec 2009
The mountains shall labor, and what will be born? A stupid little mouse.
Thanks to hundreds of thousands of US citizens who contacted their elected representatives to protest about the unelected, communistic world government with near-infinite powers of taxation, regulation and intervention that was proposed in early drafts of the Copenhagen Treaty, there is no Copenhagen Treaty. There is not even a Copenhagen Agr…

Submission to Productivity Commission on Water Recovery
Overview
This submission is brief, long on assertion and short on evidence. This is not because the assertions are not defensible, but rather because of limited resources. I would be happy to enlarge verbally should the Commission be interested.
Assertions
1.The key characteristic of Australia’s inland rivers (where most irrigation takes place), is massive variability. For example, the Darling River at Bourke has an annual a…

It has been a tragic morning. Our cat Mitzie gave birth to six kittens (her first and last litter) just over two weeks ago. My son loves them and I have had to step in and stop the overhandling of them many times. A bit hard in a two bedroom flat with one small lounge come dining room.
I was on the phone to a friend and then he comes in wailing a treat, ear splitting shrieks and cries of distress. 'What on earth is up? I ask him.
'Kitty dead. Kitty dead. Now like Bobi dead.' (Bobi was a bea…

If you know someone who is not clear on what socialism is, under Day 26 of
my hunger strike page is a remarkably candid question-and-answer session with a socialist revolutionary of today. Not for the weak of heart.

Anyone who reads the Toowoomba daily paper will have noticed a "Gentleman" from Gatton who believes our current premier is destined for "the Lodge!"
Check out the SMS messages on the editorial page, I hope you are as amused by his bewildering ramblings as I was.

Lot of serious stuff about so here's a bit of a lighter look at the silly season (from today's Observer column).
Not Happy, Feet
WELL, ‘tis the season to be jolly and I’ve been forbidden to talk politics.
It’s hard, as the biggest pre-Christmas party ever winds down in the land of my forebears.
Copenhagen is not that far from Santa’s North Pole home and the climate there has been almost as icy, as the pollies pushed their wish lists: “All I want is a global warming rise of just two degre…

Michael Smith‘S editorial on 4BC yesterday seemed to go down very well:
Here’s a way to understand Mr Rudd’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
Imagine 1 kilometre of atmosphere that we want to rid of human carbon pollution. We’ll have a walk along it.
The first 770 metres are Nitrogen.
The next 210 metres are Oxygen.
That’s 980 metres of the 1 kilometre. 20 me…

On 12 December 2009 a group of activists met at Martin Place in Sydney to challenge the irrational, unscientific and anti-democratic agenda of the Walk Against Warming protest march.
On tonight’s show we speak with two of those activists: Bill Koutalianos - a member of the Climate Sceptics Party, and Phil Davis of Truth Movement…
